First match of the new season for us kicked off in South West Poland where Ruch Chorzow made the short trip to Opole to play Odra. With Odra set to move stadiums at the end of the year to a newly built ground, this looked like one of their most interesting games remaining to be played at their old school stadium on Oleksa street.

Ruch fans were given a pool of around 500 tickets for this one although the interest amongst their fans was far greater. As expected Ruch filled the away end to the maximum and beyond, their vocal support was also on a very solid level which was helped by their teaming winning 0-2.

In fact the atmosphere on both sides was solid, Odra doing plenty to contribute to the atmosphere from their vocal sector ‘A’ which was almost full for this game with plenty of support from their Silesian friends Polonia Bytom especially.

At the start of the second half both sets of ultras’ prepared their choreographies. For Odra it was a big banner covering their sector which detailed some of the historic events in their clubs history such as their European tie with German club Magdeburg. That was followed by a pyro show on each side of the banner with red and blue flares.

Just as Odra’s Ultras’ had finished burning their final flare, Ruch Ultras were ready to present their own show. An impressively assembled banner depicting a masked Ruch fan and a message below the banner reading something like ‘you are back at the start’ followed by 2 pyro shows.

To summarise, it was a very solid way to kick the new season off, both fans in fine form with great vocal backing and Ultras shows in one of Polands great old school stadiums.
